After 53 years of singing, Cheng Kam Cheong retires

VETERAN artiste Cheng Kam Cheong (pic) has decided to retire after performing for 53 years, major Chinese dailies reported.

The 76-year-old singer held his last concert with 20 local artistes in Genting Highlands on Saturday night, China Press reported.

Among the artistes who attended the concert were Datuk Lai Meng, Lim Chiew Yin, Summer Grace and Hong Kong director Clifton Ko.

Cheng said that he decided to call it a day as his health was not as good as it used to be.

“I will always love you all. I hope you all will remember me,” said Cheng, adding that he hopes to travel to Europe.

> A thief carted off a washing machine after he failed to steal any valuables from a house in Miri, Sarawak, Sin Chew Daily reported.

He broke into the house when the owner was at work.

Sources said a neighbour alerted the owner, who rushed home to find the thief and washing machine gone.

> The sale of dumplings has dropped 20% to 30% compared to previous years, China Press reported.

Dumpling sellers said the cost of ingredient­s had gone up, so they were forced to raise their prices.

They said the sale of dumplings was affected because of the price increase.
