PM wants expansion to crowded school fast-tracked

-

BANTING: The Prime Minister wants construction of an additional block and new building for SK Kebun Baharu in Telok Panglima Garang to be expedited to address congestion in the school.

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the school, which was opened in 1951, was shared by almost 2,000 students from Kampung Batu 9 and Kampung Batu 10.

“I want this project speeded up to ease the crowding. I’m told that the number of students have gone up every year,” he said in his speech during a breaking of fast with the people from Kuala Langat district at the Nurul Iman mosque yesterday.

Also present were his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Najib also announced an allocation to renovate the Nurul Iman mosque.

“I have been told that I am the first Prime Minister to come to this village.

“Hopefully, my visit will be remembered, especially for two ‘rayas’ – one that is coming soon and the other, pilihanraya (election), which is approaching,” Najib said in jest.

Earlier, Najib paid a visit to two villagers – Ahmad Selamad, 75, and Faizah Md Ambiah, 43.

Faizah received RM56,000 to repair his house while Ahmad was given festive aid and a food hamper.

Met by reporters, Faizah said his house was badly damaged and the ceiling was leaking.

“The house will be flooded whenever it rains heavily.

“With this aid, I can renovate my house for the comfort of my wife and six children.” – Bernama
