Septuagenarian cuts a cool look for Raya
PA SI R GU DANG: Septuagenarian Shaari Ismail has been bald for the past 30 years.
Not any more. Come this Hari Raya, he will be sporting a cool crop-cut look.
The new makeover was the effort of a professional hairstylist, who was brought in by Pasir Gudang Umno division, right to Shaari’s doorstep in Taman Kota Puteri here.
The retiree and former car salesman has not gone for a proper haircut
for many years. His wife Samsiah
Abdullah, 57, would play
barber and shave his head bald every time.
Shaari, 78, who suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, gout and nerve-related complications, was among five patients with chronic ailments to receive a free makeover organised by the division.
“I have not visited a barber shop for as long as I can remember.
“Usually, my wife shaves off my hair twice a month,” he said when met at his home along Jalan Bayan 29 here.
Shaari, who relies on a walker to move about, said he was happy with the new look.
“Seronok lah (It’s fun) when a hairstylist does your hair. I cannot wait to show it to my children when they come back for Hari Raya,” he said.
Programme director Noor Azleen Ambrose said the charity event was held for the second consecutive year after receiving good response last year.
“Last year, we had three to four hairstylists who gave 100 children a new makeover.
“This year, we have 11 hairstylists attending to 150 children. We will also be giving free haircuts to sick, elderly patients and the disabled,” he said,
Noor Azleen added that children could request for the style they wanted, as long as their parents agreed.
Mohd Amir Arman Shah Ismail, 13, from SM Taman Rinting 2, was all smiles after getting a pompadour-like haircut.
“I have always wanted this look but the barber I go to usually does crop-cut hair look for RM7. I am so looking forward to celebrating Hari Raya with this new look,” he said, adding that it was his best haircut experience.
