Biscuits ‘in the news’

Trader adds colour to his cookies

-

JOHOR BARU: A cake entrepreneur here has named two of his latest products, the dahlia milk biscuits and hazelnut cocoa spread macaroon, after the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) to create a difference in this year’s Hari Raya festivity.

Naharudin Mohd Isa, 48, said the idea to use the name came about when he was trying to figure out the perfect name for the cookie

“Coincidentally, there are no Raya cookies that are given a name like this,” he said yesterday.

According to him, the dahlia milk biscuit is white and blue in colour and coated with chocolate chips while the hazelnut cocoa spread macaroon is blue in colour with chocolate filling. Blue and white are the colours of the logo and emblem of Bernama.

Naharudin, who has 20 years of experience in making biscuits and cakes, has his own following among cake and biscuit lovers here.

He now has a sales booth and a cake-making outlet named “Nahar Power” at a shopping centre in Kampung Melayu here.

In his outlet, there are 45 kinds of traditional Raya cookies and modern cookies, apart from nearly 80 types of chips and snacks.

A Singaporean customer, Rahmat Da’ed, 52, said he liked Naharudin’s biscuits because of its delectable flavour and texture.

“Almost every year before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, I’ll be here. It’s a must for me,” Rahmat said.

Another regular customer Faizal Ujang, 35, said the price offered by Nahar Power is reasonable.

In conjunction with Hari Raya and to appreciate his supportive customers, Naharudin is giving away one of the two types of Bernama biscuits to customers for each purchase of other biscuits. — Bernama
