Ground breaking for Nexus school

-

THE ground breaking ceremony for Nexus International School (Singapore) was recently held on the site of its new campus in Aljunied.

It is an international school owned by Taylor’s Schools (a member of the Taylor’s Education Group).

This new S$232mil (RM726mil) campus is located on an urban site in central Singapore bordered by a main expressway, and is slated for completion in early 2020.

“It was an achievement for us to win the bid for this site back in 2015, competing against some of the best education institutions from around the world.

“This win reflected the relevance of Nexus as a 21st century education provider competing at an international level,” said Taylor’s Schools president BK Gan.

Catering to 2,000 learners aged between three and 18, Nexus International School (Singapore) aims to create interactive and versatile learning spaces that can easily be adapted to the lesson at hand.

It is designed around flexible classrooms, which are left partially open; bespoke furniture with acoustic panelling can be moved to create spaces of the size required at the time, for different teaching scenarios. This innovative, simple solution means that learning hubs and classrooms can be easily adapted to future trends, for example changing student numbers or alterations to the curriculum.

“At Nexus we believe in evidence based pedagogy, which centres learning around the learner.

“Our experienced staff personalise and tailor their lessons to each individual to ensure their particular learning levels are met.

“Teaching in this collaborative and interactive way requires a unique space that reflects this,” said Gan at the ground breaking ceremony.

The Nexus International School brand was established in 2007 by Taylor’s Schools, their first campus set up in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

The brand soon expanded overseas to Singapore, with their second campus in Ulu Pandan commencing operations in 2011.

Today, both Nexus schools in Singapore and Malaysia are Apple Distinguished Schools, where digital technology, including the use of mobile smart projectors and interactive touch screens, is integral to the delivery of the curriculum.

“Our dream for Nexus International School started 10 years ago at Putrajaya.

“We wanted to create a flagship campus in the global arena, with a vision to connect students from diverse cultures and ethnicity through The Nexus Way.

“This dream took many years in the making, and our success today is a result of great team effort,” said

Taylor’s Education Group Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Loy Teik Ngan.

Nexus is part of Taylor’s Schools, which also owns and operates Garden International School, the Australian International School Malaysia, and Taylor’s International School with campuses in Kuala Lumpur and Puchong.
