A lucky Ride for Malaysia participant will go home with an LXV150 scooter.

Take part in Ride for Malaysia and you stand a chance to ride home a snazzy new Vespa LXV 150.

The Italian scooter, worth about RM15,000, is manufactured by Piaggio and is sponsored by Naza Premira Sdn Bhd, the official distributor for the Vespa brand in Malaysia.

“We’re contributing one of our more popular models, the silver edition Vespa LXV 150, which is a modern Vespa with a vintage cosmetic set-up,” Naza Premira chief operating officer Farouk Faisal said.

To him, Ride for Malaysia stands for unity and harmony among Malaysians.

“It’s a good effort and a good example of something that every corporate company should be part of, and we’re happy to be given the opportunity to participate. It’s for a good cause,” he said at the Naza World showroom here yesterday.

Farouk believes that cycling and an event like Ride for Malaysia can help promote unity and harmony and instil values like patriotism in Malaysians if done correctly.

“We have a ‘Why drive, let’s ride’ campaign geared towards educating the public on why it’s good for Malaysians to ride rather than drive to work.

“Every morning when we go to and from work, we see many people driving cars and most of them are single occupant. This contributes to traffic jams and air pollution, plus it’s expensive. People spend a lot on petrol, toll and parking,” Farouk said.

“Our solution is simple. Buy yourself a Vespa, you still look good. It’s an Italian design bike, it’s sleek and classy, it’s proven itself – the Vespa brand has been around for 70 years, so they must be doing something right. So, ride a Vespa to work – you save a lot of money. It’s like cycling,” he added.

Buyers are offered six months of free petrol or those who do not have a B2 driving licence (for motorbikes) can get one under Metro Driving Academy.

“I congratulate the Star Media Group for spearheading Ride for Malaysia with the theme of unity and harmony. This initiative should continue,” he said.

Ride for Malaysia, which is jointly organised by Star Media Group with property developer Sunsuria Bhd, also offers other prizes including cash.

For the 30km fun ride, the cash prizes are: first prize: RM3,800; second prize: RM2,800; third prize: RM1,800; fourth prize: RM1,000; fifth prize: RM500; sixth to 10th prize: RM300; 11th to 15th prize: RM200; 16th-30th prize: RM100; and 31st to 50th prize: RM50.

There are also 10 units of folding bicycles to be given away.

For the 5.5km family ride, the cash prizes are: first prize: RM2,000; second prize: RM1,000; and third prize: RM500.
