Ipoh cops probe circulation of grisly photos
IPOH: The district police have launched an internal investigation into the leakage of grisly photographs of a murdered man that have been circulating on social media.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said the photographs, which were considered evidence, were not supposed to be leaked to the public.
“More so when the photographs are gruesome.
“We will refer the matter and the policeman involved to our internal integrity department,” he told reporters after the district police monthly gathering at the police officers’ mess hall here yesterday.
“All department heads have been instructed to monitor their subordinates closely. I hope this will not recur,” he said.
ACP Sum said the photographs in question were related to the murder of a 30-year-old unemployed man who was found with multiple slash wounds at the 6th kilometre of the Ipoh-Lumut Road near Taman Kledang Emas and Taman Rishah here earlier this month.
It was reported that the body of S. Ganesan, from Buntong, was found with slash wounds to his head, neck, hand and legs at about 10.30am on June 6.
A post-mortem revealed that the victim, who has five criminal cases, died from excessive bleeding from neck wounds.
The police have arrested and remanded eight men, between 20 and 30 years old, following the discovery of the body.
“The suspects and the victim are acquaintances.
“The motive behind the killing is related to drugs.
“The investigation into the case is almost complete and we will refer it to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office for further action,” he said.
On an unrelated matter, ACP Sum said 90% of the district’s police force would be on duty during the Hari Raya celebration.
“About 1,500 policemen will be working in shifts. Only 10% of the policemen will be on leave.
“Those going away on holiday have been reminded to inform the nearest police station so that we can beef up patrols in the respective areas,” he said.
