> Potential death traps

In light of the Grenfell Tower inferno in London, the authorities should look at fire safety requirements in shophouses converted into budget hotels. There are many of these now in Malaysia and they are potential death traps in case of a fire. Authorities, please act before something tragic happens. – WongCK

> Call for action

Police/ PLUS Expressways/ JPJ/ SPAD/ Customs should join forces to ensure the private ambulance services are run properly. Some are not operating as required by law (scoop and run services without qualified medical staff and equipment, avoiding GST, etc.) and do not comply with the six-month periodic tests for the vehicles as stipulated by Puspakom. Lives are at stake. Please take action asap. – Concerned citizen

> True educator > Misusing social media > Safety measures > Strictly enforcing

My recent visit to Hadyaai was delightful. All eateries and entertainment outlets there are smoke-free. The authorities strictly enforce the “No Smoking” rules. Enforcement is the rule of thumb. – Concerned

> Get the printers

Ah Long are using posters, pamphlets, etc. to advertise their shady business. The authorities should go after the printers of these advertisements.

Farewell Brother Felix. RIP, educator par excellence, true La Sallian, friend. Thank you for your lifetime of selfless service to others. – Paul

Social media has its pros and cons. Hope MCMC takes stern action on users who spread false news and information just to tarnish businesses.

The move by JPJ to provide a WhatsApp contact number is a noble idea to prevent bus drivers from breaking traffic rules. This ruling would be more effective if bus companies cooperate by putting up a signboard with the vehicle’s number, name of driver (removable due to frequent shift change of drivers) and the JPJ WhatsApp contact number in full view of passengers. If these moves don’t work, nothing will. – TC

The enforcement authorities should take stern action on all drivers who break the road transport laws during the Hari Raya balik kampung exodus. More complaints desks should also be set up to report motorists who break the law. Let’s all do our bit to achieve accident-free days. – N. V. Subbarow, Penang
