Lozano’s dream move to PSV delights Mexican camp

SOCHI ( Russia): Hirving Lozano’s “dream” move to PSV Eindhoven could lead to more Mexicans playing in Europe on the back of a successful Confederations Cup campaign, according to Porto midfielder Hector Herrera.

Lozano, 21, completed his switch to PSV on a six-year deal on Monday from Mexican club Pachuca, where Herrera first met him at the start of their careers.

Having been given permission to leave the Mexico camp, Lozano flew from Eindhoven to Sochi to rejoin the team.

“What he is going through is like a dream, it opens doors for all Mexican players. We will keep playing well to earn the trust of big (European) teams,” said Lozano’s Mexico team-mate Herrera, 27.

“These tournaments (the Confed Cup) are a good platform and it’s a chance to get good results to show what Mexican football can do.

“I’m happy for him, I have known him since he was a little boy.

“It’s amazing to be here with him now, because we come from the same club.

“I am very proud of him.” Lozano says he hopes more Mexicans will follow him, Herrera and the likes of Bayer Leverkusen’s star striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez to Europe.

“We have players who have shown they can play in the top leagues in the world and I hope more can do the same in the future,” said fleet-footed winger Lozano.

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio said he had no problems releasing Lozano during the Confederations Cup to complete the PSV move.

“The medical was on Monday and we had to let him go,” said the Mexico boss, who left Lozano out of his starting line-up for Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Portugal.

“Hopefully we will have a few more players doing the same thing.

“That will mean we are producing more players for European clubs, which will just push the standard up as a national team.

“We’re helping him to make his dreams come true.”
