Chelsea to profit from any deal for winger Salah

-

LONDON: Chelsea can expect to profit from a sellon clause should Liverpool seal an anticipated deal to sign Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah from Italian side AS Roma, The Times has reported.

Liverpool can expect to pay a club record fee for the 25yearold, who is due to arrive in Merseyside to undergo a medical this week, according to multiple media reports in Britain and Italy.

Salah joined Roma from Chelsea for 12mil (RM65mil) in 2016 after a successful loan spell in Italy and the London club negotiated a sellon clause in his contract worth 10% of the profit on any future sale, The Times said.

With Liverpool looking increasingly likely to

£

break their transfer record of the 35mil (RM189mil) they paid to lure striker Andy Carroll from Newcastle in 2011, Chelsea will make a healthy profit.

Salah scored 15 league goals for Roma last season as they finished second in Serie A and has been identified as a key signing by Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp, whose only other established wide player is Senegal international Sadio Mane.

Meanwhile, Oxford United manager Michael Appleton has left the club to become Craig Shakespeare’s assistant at Leicester on a threeyear contract.

“I am delighted that the club have been able to bring a coach of Michael’s standing to Leicester,” Shakespeare said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Michael and I worked together at West Bromwich Albion and it quickly became clear that he possessed all the qualities and the integrity required to enjoy a successful coaching career.”

During his threeyear stint, Appleton led Oxford to an automatic promotion from League Two, and to two Football League Trophy finals, losing on both occasions.

The 41yearold also managed Portsmouth, Blackpool and Blackburn, and worked alongside Shakespeare in West Bromwich Albion’s backroom team between 2003 and 2008. – Reuters
