KAJANG: The annual Malaysia Festival of the Mind (MFotM) is back to boost the mental literacy of Malaysians.

The 13th edition of the event aims to develop thinking, memory and creativity skills through the empowerment of the mind.

The event is organised by the Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement (MMLM), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC).

MMLM chairman Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, who is also UTAR chancellor and founder, encouraged the public to take part in the festival, which is open to the public for free.

He said the festival raises awareness of intellectual resources needed for the nation’s growth, development and progress besides improv- ing the quality of life.

“Memory has got a multitude of uses and it should be cherished. It benefits everybody from all ages and professions,” he said during a press conference at UTAR’s campus here yesterday.

Themed “Great Mind”, the MFofM will take place on July 8 and 9, at TAR UC; July 15 and 16 at UTAR, Kampar; and Nov 3 to 5, at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

It will feature, among others, products, programmes and activities related to mental literacy, the Third Inter- Varsity Sudoku Tournament and mind games.

Trainers and speakers – including Asia’s top International Master of Memory Huang Sheng Hua from China – will be present to introduce various techniques and skills in the improvement of mental literacy.
