Swansea land Dutch keeper Mulder as Gomis leaves for Galatasaray

-

LONDON: English Premier League side Swansea have made Dutch goalkeeper Erwin Mulder their first summer signing on a free transfer after the 28- year- old turned down a new contract at Eredivisie side Heerenveen.

Swansea said on their website ( www.swanseacity.com) that Mulder had signed a three-year deal on Thursday and will compete with Polish international Lukasz Fabianski and Swedish goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt for the position.

“Now the opportunity has come and I have taken it with both hands,” he said. “The Premier League is the biggest league in the world. As a player, you want to be part of that.

“Of course I want to challenge to play here, but Lukasz Fabianski is here and Kristoffer Nordfeldt is here, so it is going to be difficult.

“But I am going to do ( my) best.” Mulder will join his new team- mates for pre- season train- ing on Monday.

Meanwhile, French international striker Bafetimbi Gomis signed for Turkish top- flight side Galatasaray from Swansea on a three- year deal.

Gomis, 31, who spent the past season on loan at Marseille, had the day earlier received an ecstat- ic welcome in Istanbul when he was mobbed by hundreds of fans of the “Lions” before passing a medical.

Swansea will receive 2.5mil (RM12mil) for the player, who will

get an annual wage of 3.35mil (RM16mil), excluding bonuses for success in the Turkish Super Lig and UEFA competitions in each of the three seasons, Galatasaray said in a statement.

“I am ready to be a lion for Galatasaray so that the club win titles and great victories against their rivals,” said Gomis as he signed the contract alongside Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek.
