Night of music by school’s orchestra

-

THE award-winning Symphony Orchestra Club of SMJK Sam Tet, Ipoh has successfully organised its seventh annual concert - “Le Voyage” - at the school’s Brother John Moh Hall.

More than 1,000 people filled the hall to enjoy the musical performance by the club.

All tickets were snapped up within three weeks.

People from all walks of life, including corporate figures and concert sponsors, made up the crowds inside the hall.

Students from other schools in Ipoh also watched the concert.

They were joined by the school board of directors, parent-teacher association and administration as well.

The club has achieved many accolades in both the national and international arena including winning two gold awards at the recent National Secondary School String Ensemble Competition in Penang.

Led by the chief teacher advisor Ooi Lea Hun, other teacher advisors and club president See Di Hang, the audience were treated to various songs in the three-hour long concert.

More than 100 members of the Symphony Orchestra Club from the various musical sections including the viola, cello, double bass, percussion, brass and woodwind, performed during the concert.

The rehearsals started at the beginning of the year.

As the concert was held the night before Fathers Day, the club introduced a special segment called “Parents’ Day” during the interval.

Its members gave roses to the audience as an appreciation for their support in the concert.

It was certainly a surprise as no one including the teacher advisors knew about this activity beforehand.

When it was over, the audience asked for an encore.

The performers did not want to let them down so they played one more song before ending the concert.

For most of the music section heads, it was their last concert as they are now in Form Five and preparing for SPM.

The “Le Voyage” marked the whole journey they went through as musicians before passing the baton to the next batch of students.

At the end of the concert, some members of the audience went up to the stage to present bouquets of flowers to signify the “graduation” of the musicians in Form Five from the club.

Cheers and applause reverberated throughout the hall.

The members of the audience received a small token and a special booklet by the club on its history, special messages, pictorial achievements and activities.
