Khairy gets the ball rolling by buying SEA Games tickets online

KUALA LUMPUR: With the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games just 45 days away, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has become the first purchaser of the online tickets.

Khairy bought two tickets for the opening ceremony – to be held at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Aug 19 – to kick start the sale of tickets for the 29th edition of the SEA Games yesterday.

The tickets, priced at RM10 to RM20, can be purchased online at www.kualalumpu­r2017.com. my by cash, credit and debit cards.

Tickets will be required for aquatics (diving, swimming, synchronis­ed swimming and waterpolo); badminton; gymnastics; karate; taekwondo; silat; futsal; netball; rugby; track cyling; basketball; sepak takraw; billiards and snooker; muay; and football.

Entry is free for archery, athletics, open water swimming, bowling, boxing, cricket, BMX cycling, road cycling, equestrian, fencing, golf, hockey, ice hockey, ice skating, judo, lawn bowl, petanque, sailing, shooting, squash, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, waterski, weightlift­ing and wushu.

Tickets will also be on sale soon at selected shopping malls as well as kiosks located at the competitio­n venues.

“Various initiative­s have been organised to drum up support for our KL SEA Games, which is about 40 days away,” said Khairy, who expects a high demand for tickets to certain popular sports.

“I hope Malaysians will use this opportunit­y to attend the events as a show of their undivided support to our national athletes.

“The cheering power is in your hands and I’m sure your attendance will boost the morale of our athletes, who are on a mission to help the nation emerge as overall champions.

“That’s why we have ensured that the tickets are affordable and cost only from RM10 to RM20.

“Not all sports will require tickets. Entry is also free for those who want to watch the Asean Para Games (from Sept 17-23).”

Khairy also said that they will have proper screenings of ticket purchasers for security purpose.

“They have to give their personal details and each purchaser will be limited to four tickets,” he said.

Malaysia have set their sights on winning more than 100 gold medals in a bid to regain the overall title which they last won when the Games were held here in 2001.

A total of 38 sports will be contested at the KL Games.
