KAJANG: Robbery victim Syazana Amirah Asshaari has started to open her eyes, giving her family a glimmer of hope that she will soon recover from her injuries.

Siti Rafiah Mansor said her daughter was still unable to speak.

“We speak comforting words to her. I am taking this as a sign she is on her way to recovery. I have not lost hope and will continue to pray,” she said.

The Form Two student was left with a fractured skull as a result of being hit with a blunt object at her home in Kampung Masjid, Bangi on Friday.

Siti Rafiah found her youngest daughter on a bloodied bed in one of the rooms with wounds to her head and chin at about 11.15am.

Two mobile phones, a purse and some cash were missing from the home.

Syazana, or Nana as she is known to her family and friends, was sent to Kajang Hospital before being transferred to Hospital Kuala Lumpur where she underwent sur- gery and later admitted into the intensive care unit.

Neighbours told police they saw two men on a motorcycle acting suspiciously in front of the house.

Since the incident, there has been an outpouring of support for the victim and her family.

Some of Nana’s school friends from SMK Bandar Seri Putra had dropped by the family home while her school principal and representatives from the district education office have given their support.

“Her friends tell me they miss her very much and are also praying for things to return to the way they were,” said Siti Rafiah.

The local mosque has launched a donation drive to help the family and has organised a solat hajat for Nana.

“I’m truly overwhelmed by all the support. We plan to use the money from the donation drive to get whatever Nana needs to regain her health,” she added.

Netizens have also expressed concern for the family and have demanded the culprits be brought to justice.

Kajang police have released a facial composite of two suspects.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Othman Nayan said the duo are believed to be in their 20s.

“One of them, who is about 170cm tall, has darkish skin and a flat-top hairstyle while his accomplice wears his hair in a braid and is also dark-skinned,” he said in a statement.

On Monday, Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said police have a few leads but have yet to make an arrest.
