Man steals sister’s jewellery to settle debts

A 27-YEAR-OLD man stole his elder sister’s jewellery worth around RM30,000 to settle debts with loansharks, reported Harian Metro.

The incident was discovered when the man’s mother became suspicious after she saw her granddaugh­ter playing with some cash at home in Mahsan, Negri Sembilan.

After checking one of the drawers in the sister’s room, it was learnt that a necklace, a bracelet and some rings were missing.

It was believed that the man pawned the jewellery as he also uploaded a photo of a pawn letter in a social media chat group.

The man has since disappeare­d after admitting to his family that he stole the jewellery.

> A man broke into a supermarke­t through its ceiling around midnight and fled with RM300,000.

Harian Metro reported that the man managed to break open three safe boxes and a cash deposit machine (CDM) on the premises at Section 15, Shah Alam.

The supermarke­t manager lodged a police report when he came in to work and found that the supermarke­t had been robbed.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said CCTV footages showed the burglar, who was in a cap and jacket covering his face, breaking in from the upper floor of the premises at 11.47pm on Monday and escaping at 5.51am yesterday.

Police have since detained three Pakistanis aged between 33 and 34 who were working overtime to guard the premises. There were no full-time security guards working during the incident.

Eighth Brigade Commander BrigGen Nazari Abd Hadi told Berita

Harian that some 400 army personnel will be stationed along the border to enhance control there through patrolling or intelligen­ce efforts.

He said residents staying near the border will now have to use the legitimate entry route through the Immigratio­n, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Rantau Panjang.
