MCA to stream Chinese lessons live on FB

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians who missed out on a chance to register for the open Chinese lessons of primary schools workshop can now opt to watch these via live broadcast on Facebook this weekend.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said even after registration for the “Contents in the Classroom, Blossoming Lessons” workshop had closed, many teachers continued to express their interest to participate.

“The MCA Publicity Bureau will broadcast these lessons live via our official MCA Facebook page for two days consecutively, enabling teachers who missed out on the registration to participate from outside the classroom,” Dr Wee, who is also the MCA deputy president, said yesterday.

The broadcast will be aired live between 8.30am and 6.30pm on Saturday and from 8.30am to 3.30pm on Sunday.

Dr Wee said the activity was initially promoted via the Facebook pages of the National Union of Heads of Schools, as well as the MCA Education Consultative Council.

“In less than a week, the applications exceeded 1,200. While I thank the teachers for their unwavering support for this activity, I also feel sorry for those who were unable to register on time,” he said.

The upcoming workshop would be a platform for Chinese school teachers to interact and exchange experiences, said Dr Wee.

“From Kurikulum Bersepadu Sekolah Rendah (KBSR) to Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah (KSSR), the Education Ministry has followed the pace of development, so teachers must also follow the ministry’s pace in adjusting their footsteps. Under the KSSR system, language lessons will prioritise learning via reading,” he said.

“This will ultimately open up the teachers’ teaching vision, strengthen the teaching quality and the teachers’ teaching capability.

“The workshop also provides teachers with a platform for selfdevelopment. It is a positive sign that teachers are keen on participating,” said Dr Wee.

The workshop is jointly organised by the Malaysian Chinese Education Consultative Council and the National Union of Heads of Schools, and supported by the Deputy Education Minister’s Office.

The event will be opened by Dr Wee while the closing ceremony will be attended by Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon.
