Satay lunch treat at MRT launch
Prime Minister to complete ‘Kajang Move’ by hosting mega feast
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will complete the “real Kajang Move” on Monday – the long-awaited Phase 2 of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT line – with nothing less than the town’s most illustrious product – satay.
The satay feast was confirmed yesterday by Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) officials who briefed the media on how the Prime Minister will open the MRT line to bring mass public transport to this grossly underserved corridor.
The opening day schedule begins at the Tun Razak Exchange MRT station at 11am (not open to the public). From there, the entourage, including invited guests, will take the train to the Stadium Kajang MRT station, a journey 13 stops away.
The stadium will be the epicentre of activities as nearly 20,000 guests will be treated to 70,000 sticks of satay supplied by Kajang’s foremost satay maker, Sate Kajang Hj Samuri, which has its headquarters just next door.
“As the only satay supplier that day, we have been asked to prepare around 45,000 sticks of chicken satay, while the rest will be beef,” said a manager of Hj Samuri, who also confirmed that around 70 staff members would be roped in that day to help with serving.
“Cooking the satay will begin around 6am on Monday, and we are also serving other food such as fried rice,” he said.
On Wednesday, Najib was given a private preview of several stations along the Phase 2 alignment, including several underground stations.
Yesterday, he wrote on his blog that he had given the thumbs-up following his observations on his trip where he was accompanied by his family, including his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
“I am satisfied with the worldclass MRT Line which had been developed by thousands of our own people since 2010.
“To all those involved, be proud of your achievement, recall the sacrifices, energy, time that should have been spent with family and friends. This is the product of your sweat and tears! I, myself, am proud with all of you,” he said on najib razak.com.
Najib tweeted last Monday that the “real Kajang Move” will be realised on July 17, a statement that appears to mock PKR’s attempted move in 2014 to replace then Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim with PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
