Jilted lover in bomb scare probe held for another day

KAPAR: It’s another night in the cell for a jilted lover, who allegedly planted an improvised explosive device (IED) on his former girlfriend’s car.

The 28-year-old electrical technician was supposed to have been released after his remand ended yesterday but police needed to question him further.

He was picked up on Monday to assist in the case for criminal intimidation and making and possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said police were still probing the case and needed to question the suspect further.

“His only motive was to scare his ex-girlfriend since their relationship had ended for some time,” he said after attending the handing over ceremony between former North Klang OCPD Senior Asst Comm Yusoff Mamat and his successor Asst Comm Mazelan Paijan.

It is learnt that the suspect had stood as a guarantor for a bank loan which the nurse had taken to buy a car.

“We believe the nurse has not been keeping up with her payments. This had caused him much distress,” he said.

Since 2013, the 27-year-old woman has lodged five police reports against the man to keep his distance.

It is believed that the man, who studied electronics at a private college, learnt how to make the IED through videos he found on the Internet.

“This is the first time he has done something like this, and checks show he has no prior criminal record.

“It was enough to frighten but not to kill,” DCP Ab Rashid said.

On July 8, the nurse was on her way home from work when she heard a beeping noise in her car.

She later drove to her uncle’s house and found the device stuck to the bumper.

A bomb disposal unit later defused and destroyed the IED.
