Centre for peace in Putrajaya
THE King Salman Centre for International Peace (KSCIP) which will be set up in Putrajaya will play a very important role in promoting peace and settling regional and international issues, particularly those relating to security and the threat of terrorism. It will also serve as a bridge to link West and East and the Muslim and the non-Muslim world to forge closer relationship between them.
More importantly, KSCIP will aim to rectify many negative perceptions of the international community towards Islam which has been portrayed badly in recent years by terrorists to serve their own interests and spread their false ideology.
The idea to set up the international peace centre was presented in February when Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud visited Malaysia.
The selection of Malaysia as the location for KSCIP reflected the confidence of the Arab nation in this country as a nation that practises and values moderation as a way of life.
Looking at the roles which the centre will play, it is very important for it to have the ability, strength and influence to attract public respect, trust and confidence. For this to happen, it must be neutral and not be subjected to control by any entity or political intervention. All parties involved in the establishment of this centre must ensure that it is run by people with wide knowledge and experience at least in international relations and diplomacy and have the ability to attract respect, trust and confidence.
Everybody must set aside their political differences and give their full support for the establishment of the centre if they really want to create a more stable and peaceful world for our future generations.
