PUTRAJAYA: The integration of ticketing systems for KTM Komuter and other rail services will kick off at 20 train stations next month, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

At present, only Prasarana Malaysia Berhadrun Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT) and KL Monorail services are integrated and have a single payment system.

“I have already instructed KTMB (Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad) to collaborate with Prasarana to integrate their train systems.

“We will start in August with 20 stations first. We will go by phases, with an aim to have all systems fully integrated by the end of the year,” Liow told reporters after his ministry’s Hari Raya celebrations here.

Although the 20 stations have yet to be identified, it was learnt priority would be on KTM Komuter stations which had interchanges with other rail stations.

These include the Subang Jaya, Bandar Tasik Selatan and KL Sentral stations.

On another matter, Liow said the Government is studying the possibilities of implementing a tram or monorail service in Putrajaya, as a form of lastmile connectivity.

“There is no decision yet, the Government is still considering if it could implement a tram or monorail service in Putrajaya. This depends on the results of a feasibility study.

“Putrajaya needs a modern and efficient public transportation system, as it is the administrative centre of the country.

“The proposed monorail or tram service will be linked to the Greater KL rail system, as there will be MRT and the Kuala LumpurSingapore High Speed Rail connectivity here soon,” he said.

A previously planned RM400mil monorail project for Putrajaya was shelved in 2004, due to lack of funds.
