DAP to hold CEC polls ‘under protest’
RoS has to verify party’s list of voting delegates, says Loke
PUTRAJAYA: The DAP said it is willing to hold a fresh central executive committee (CEC) election, on condition that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) verifies the party’s list of voting delegates.
The party’s national organising secretary Anthony Loke also wants the RoS to approve a monitor nominated by the party to supervise the CEC poll.
“The list of names and the proposed independent monitoring body is subject to their approval.
“Without their approval, we just can’t move forward,” said Loke.
Loke and other party officials, including vice-chairperson Teresa Kok and youth chief Teo Kok Seong, were at the RoS headquarters here to submit a letter.
The RoS in a statement on July 7 said it had no intention of de-registering DAP but ordered the party to hold a fresh CEC election.
Loke said DAP was considering legal action against the RoS and said that any fresh CEC poll will be held “under protest”.
“We are ready to hold the re-election and at the same time, we also have the right to take legal action against them. A judicial review for example.”
Loke said the party will not hold a fresh election until it gets to meet RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah.
Kok said the party polls would be held through a special congress in accordance with the party’s constitution.
She said DAP has appointed PKF Consulting to supervise the re-election as requested by the RoS.
Kok expressed disappointment that the RoS had taken four years to reject DAP’s re-election held in 2013.
“It is very unreasonable and unfair to DAP,” she said.
Mohammad Razin, when asked on the DAP’s request for a meeting, said the party can write to the RoS if it requires any clarification.
