Chief Justice heads Penang honours list

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Justice Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif heads the state honours list in the investitur­e ceremony to mark Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas’ 79th birthday.

He is awarded the Datuk Utama Pangkuan Negeri (DUPN) which is the highest award in Penang and carries the Datuk Seri Utama title.

Also in the list are Armed Forces chief Jen Datuk Seri Zulkiple Kassim and Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce president Datuk Seri Choot Ewe Seng, who are conferred the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN) which accords the Datuk Seri title.

A total of 1,481 people will be receiving their awards from Abdul Rahman during the investitur­e ceremony at Dewan Sri Pinang.

Fourteen people including Tah Wah Group Sdn Bhd executive director Datuk Hong Yeam Wah and Kobay Technology Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Koay Heang Eng will receive the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN) which carries the title Datuk.

Also receiving the DGPN are Customs director-general Datuk Subromania­n Tholasy and former Penang Indian Chamber of Commerce president and executive director of Dimex Holdings Sdn Bhd Datuk Markend Dalpatram Joshi.

Among the 17 people who received the Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri (DMPN), which carries the title Datuk, are Bayan Baru Lions Club founder Datuk Goh Eng Hoe and Penang Hindu Endowment Board commission­er Datuk Kuvenaraju Pachappen.

Former Penang deputy police chief and Bukit Aman Commercial Crime deputy director Datuk Thaiveegan Arumugam is also conferred the DMPN.

A total of 89 people received the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri which also carries a datukship, and 88 the Darjah Johan Negeri, which does not carry an honorary title.
