Student dies of liver failure in S’pore hospital

A STUDENT suffering from acute liver failure died while seeking treatment at a hospital in Singapore, major Chinese dailies reported.

20, raise funds for a liver transplant as his family could not afford the RM1.6mil medical fee.

Lim, who was studying in Australia, fell into a coma on July 17 in a hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Nanyang Siang Pau reported.

Previously, Lim, who was back home on holiday, had sought treatment at a clinic for a skin condition.

The family decided to send him to Singapore on Monday after his condition became serious so that his two older sisters could donate parts of their liver to him.

However, he died at about 11am on Thursday.

> Guang Ming Daily reported that a 10-year-old boy suffered burns on his body when he tried to rescue his younger brother from their burning home on Tuesday.

Xiao Jiang managed to climb to the top floor of the three-storey house in Hangzhou, China, but decided to go back to save his fouryear-old brother, who was on the second floor.

He suffered burns and was rescued by firemen, although his brother died.

Xiao Jiang is currently being treated in hospital.

> The daily also reported that a woman allegedly used a child as an “accomplice” to steal a wallet at a game centre.

According to a man known only as Xiao Li, the wallet was left behind by his girlfriend in a shopping mall in Dalian, China, on Tuesday evening.

CCTV footage showed that the suspect, in her 30s, took the wallet while a boy was seen trying to block her actions from view.

They then ran away with the wallet.

Footage from another camera showed the suspect taking the valuables out of the wallet before throwing it in a dustbin.

Xiao Li criticised the woman for using a child to commit crime.
