Bill to cover monitoring devices

-

CONVICTS who wear an electronic monitoring device ( EMD) can be jailed for up to three years if they lose, tamper with, damage or destroy the gadget under proposed amendments to the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) 1959.

The Bill was tabled for its first reading by Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

“The amendments will also make it an offence if they fail to replace the damaged or lost EMD. It comes with a jail term not exceeding three years,” he said.

The changes include an official form which must be filled out by offenders who are ordered to wear the EMD.
