Animals also have feelings
I AM writing with regard to “Minimum fine for abusing animals is now RM20,000” ( The Star, July 19).
I fully support the Government’s move to enforce the Animal Welfare Act 2015. It’s to curb animal abuse and let the abusers face the consequences.
Developed countries have long taken firm action against abusers and ensured the welfare of animals. They have set out specific guidelines and requirements that owners, breeders and others need to comply with. Stricter rules and laws lead to a reduction in animal abuse.
The implementation of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 in Malaysia will ensure that all animal/pet owners take proper care of the animals, with regard to their environment, health, diet, vaccination, etc.
Compliance with this Act may also reduce the possibility of the outbreak of diseases, such as rabies.
Animals are not toys; they also have feelings and don’t deserve to be harmed in any way. FNAI Ampang, Kuala Lumpur
