Yuna featured in Vogue Arabia
PETALING JAYA: Singer-songwriter Yuna (Yunalis Zara’ai) has done it again. The 30-year-old Malaysian garnered international attention when she was spotted in the July/ August issue of Vogue Arabia.
With the headline “Hijabi Crush”, the magazine described Yuna as a Muslim who proudly represents women and diversity on the global scene, while making hit music and breaking into international charts.
The visual, in which she wears a grey dress by Malaysian designer Hatta Dolmat, is featured as a section opener (one of the covers inside an issue).
It was photographed by Japan-born, California-based photographer Aja Hitomi.
“I’m over the mooooon!” Yuna enthused on Instagram.
In her posting, the star, currently based in Los Angeles, also joked about how she would always be ready to do an “actual cover” for the publication in the future.
Since her meteoric rise to fame as a singer, she has become a poster girl for “hijabistas”, especially among the young and urban crowd.
Drawing focus to her appearance as much as to her music, she is known for having an effortless sense of style and celebrated for making the hijab a large part of her iconic image.
Yuna even made her debut at the New York Fashion Week earlier this year. She was seen bringing her own brand of style and personality to the runway of American fashion designer Mara Hoffman.
At the time, she reportedly helped with the styling of the other models, lending a hand at tying the turbans that featured as part of the different ensembles during the show.
