PNB chief excited to walk for unity
Wahid: Do our part to realise aspirations
KUALA LUMPUR: Top corporate figure Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar (pic) has given his endorsement to the #AnakAnakMalaysia unity walk.
“It is a positive way of bringing Malaysians together to show their love for the country and fellow Malaysians.
“This year will be special as His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah will grace the event,” he said.
Wahid, who is the Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) group chairman, said he was excited about the upcoming event and plans to bring his family to the event on Aug 27, which coincides with his second daughter’s birthday.
The #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk will be held at Dataran Kemerdekaan in Shah Alam, Selangor. The walk celebrates Malaysia’s diversity and promotes unity and understanding among its people, something many of us may take for granted.
“The timing is perfect as it coincides with the National Day, the SEA Games, and ahead of Hari Malaysia on Sept 16.
“Let us all be constructive and do our part to realise our aspirations for a prosperous, peaceful, inclusive, equitable and sustainable nation,” Wahid added.
The # AnakAnakMalaysia campaign started in 2015 with some 500,000 #AnakAnakMalaysia wristbands distributed nationwide.
It took a step further last year with the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2016, where more than 5,000 Malaysians turned up for the 3.4km walk with some 850,000 wristbands given out all over the country.
This year, the walk has been extended to 5km with a new wristband designed by local cartoonist Reggie Lee. One million of these wristbands will be distributed. The wristband was introduced at a special launch held at the Eco Ardence Sales gallery in Setia Alam.
Local celebrities, influencers and corporate figures have pledged their support for the unity walk that aims to promote the love for Malaysia.
#AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2017 will be held at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam on Aug 27. The registration fee is RM80 for families (two adults plus two children), RM40 for individual adults (18 years and above) and RM15 for a child (12 years and below).
Registration for this year’s walk can be done at http://sites.thestar. com.my/aamwalk/. #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk is organised by Star Media Group, in collaboration with EcoWorld.
Other sponsors for the event include Proton (car sponsor) and Panasonic (silver sponsor).
