Trip turns fatal after driver loses control

IPOH: They were on their way from Kuala Lumpur to visit their father at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here, but the trip turned fatal for the two siblings.
Simrandeep Kaur, 25, and Gurvider Singh, 23, both students, were killed in a three-vehicle accident along the North-South Expressway in the early hours yesterday.
The accident at Kilometre 290.5 of the northbound lane, believed to have happened at around 3am, saw the Perodua Axia driven by Gurvider going out of control near the Gopeng Rural Transformation Centre.
According to Perak traffic enforcement and investigation department deputy chief DSP Mohd Mahiri Hussin, it was believed that Gurvider lost control of his car and slammed into the back of a Perodua Myvi, before hitting a trailer parked at the road shoulder.
Simrandeep and Gurvider died on the spot, while those in the two other vehicles escaped unhurt.
“The road was dry and the weather was good when the accident happened. That part of the highway was also well-lit,” DSP Mohd Mahiri said.
The accident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving, he added.
A friend of Gurvider, who did not want to be named, said he was shocked to learn about Gurvider’s death and could not imagine the anguish faced by the family.
“Gurvider was a loving son. He was also very enterprising, as he ran some businesses while studying.
“He was very jovial. I used to travel with him to Kuala Lumpur and he was a really good-hearted guy. I am very disturbed by the news,” the friend said.
