Gavin seeking better results on Asian Tour in India

- By TAN MING WAI

PETALING JAYA: Gavin Kyle Green is eyeing a happier return to India when he tees it up at the inaugural US$300,000 ( RM1.28mil) TAKE Solutions Masters in Bengaluru on Thursday.

The 23-year-old national No. 1 will be joined by Nicholas Fung and Danny Chia at the Karnataka Golf Association Golf Course as the trio bid to keep Malaysia’s winning run on the Asian Tour. Nicholas was the victor at the last stop — the Queen’s Cup in Koh Samui, Thailand – in June.

To date, Gavin has two second-place finishes. He was runner-up at the Asian Tour-European Tour sanctioned Indian Open in New Delhi in March and Yeangder Heritage in Taiwan in April.

Gavin now sits fourth on the Order of Merit, thanks to the seven cuts he made in eight starts.

The high-flying Tour rookie will be hoping to go one better now that he is back in India.

“I’m looking forward to playing this week as it’s a new event,” said Gavin.

“I’ve got good memories of India after finishing second there earlier in the season.

“The top two finishes were a big boost to my confidence. Making the cuts consistently have also added a lot to my game.

“I’ll have to keep working hard and, hopefully, things will start to fall in place,” added Gavin, who was sec- ond to Danny in last week’s CIMB National Championship, the qualifiers for the US PGA Tour’s CIMB Classic at the TPC Kuala Lumpur from Oct 12-15.

For Nicholas, he believes that he’s up for a back-to-back title bid.

“I feel relieved as the win in Samui has secured me a two-year exemption on the Tour. I think I can perform even better now as I’m pressure free. I’m eager to make my season better by going for multiple wins,” said the 26-year-old.
