SJKC Kheng Chee pupils get to show their patriotism, thanks to PTA

-

PUCHONG: Muffled high-pitched giggles and excited chatter filled the air at SJKC Kheng Chee in Pusat Bandar Puchong last week as bowed heads and little fingers were kept busy assembling the Jalur Gemilang.

Thanks to the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) which sponsored 1,000 copies of The Star, all pupils now have their very own mini Jalur Gemilang to hoist in the coming days as they prepare to celebrate National Day.

PTA chairman Lee Kwai Yoong said he was keen to promote Star Media Group’s Raise the Flag campaign in the school to instil patriotism at a young age.

“This nationwide campaign will promote unity among pupils, which is great because unity begins in schools,” he said.

Headmaster Lim Wah Lim thanked the PTA for sponsoring the copies. “The information about our flag in the pullout will further enrich our pupils as well,” he said.

Lim added that the Raise The Flag campaign would inculcate the spirit of unity and harmony among its multi-racial pupils.

Joining in the fun were Star Media Group special officer in group managing director and CEO’s office Loo Phan Kooi, PTA treasurer Beh Chan Chen and committee members Charlene Liew and Eng Fei Yee.

The Raise the Flag initiative seeks to strengthen national pride among Malaysians and will run until Malaysia Day on Sept 16. Aset Kayamas is the main sponsor while Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd is the co-sponsor.

Under the campaign, the special four-page spreads will enable Malaysians to cut out and assemble their own mini flags.

There will also be a T-shirt template included in the newspaper’s centrespread. Decorate the T-shirts with a Malaysian motif and be photographed “wearing” it while holding the flags.

Best poses should be hashtagged #RaiseTheFlagMY on social media, together with a short love note to Malaysia. On Facebook, you can also share it as: raisetheflagmy.

Prizes await the best photos. Submissions with at least 15 persons “wearing” the T-shirts and waving the flags stand to win a RM4,000 buffet for 100 pax at their school/office/home by Original Kayu Nasi Kandar.
