More talk of DAP’s Kit Siang contesting in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Talk that DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang might contest a seat in Penang has re-ignited, with his address in the electoral roll traced to the state.

The online voter registration checker (http://daftarj.spr.gov.my) showed that Kit Siang’s voting address is in Kinta Lane which comes under the Tanjong parliamentary and Komtar state seats.

This has sparked off heated speculation that Kit Siang, who is the Gelang Patah MP in Johor, will contest in Penang in the next general election.

In May, party secretary-general and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was reported to have told an online portal that his father would not be contesting in Penang “for sure”.

Penang DAP vice-chairman Zairil Khir Johari, however, claimed that Kit Siang’s electoral address had always been in Penang since 1986.

He said Kit Siang had never changed his electoral address since he contested and won the Kampung Kolam state and Tanjung parliamentary seats in 1986.

“He is now the Gelang Patah MP . To contest a parliamentary seat, one doesn’t have to move the electoral address. “The address only needs to be within a state if one is contesting a state seat,’’ Zairil, who is the Bukit Bendera MP, pointed out.

On talk that the DAP adviser will be moved to contest in Penang to give him “an easier time”, Khairil retorted: “When has Kit Siang ever wanted an easy win?”
