Put phone away to keep it safe

- POLA SINGH Kuala Lumpur

MOST of us cannot do without our mobile phones now. We are glued to this device at home, restaurants, shopping complexes, train or office and we simply cannot let it go.

Many also talk, text or fiddle with their phone while walking on the road or pavement.

Caught up and engrossed with their phone, they are oblivious to what’s going on around them and inevitably expose themselves to opportunistic snatch thieves.

These pedestrians are most vulnerable to a new breed of mobile phone snatch thieves who usually work in pairs.

One would be on a motorbike while the other would grab the phone from the unsuspecting victim. Both thieves would escape on the motorbike within seconds.

Or both thieves could be on the motorbike and the pillion rider would attempt to snatch the phone from the unsuspecting victim.

A number of my friends, especially ladies, have been victims of these snatch thieves.

So be warned and beware when using your phone on the sidewalks and road.

Your phone can be snatched in an instant and it would be difficult to do anything to stop the thieves.

To protect your personal property, refrain from using your phone while you are on the street.

If you have to use the phone for some very urgent matter, then be aware of the surroundings and walk on the inside lane. Or stop in a café or shop to do what you have to do.
