PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Cabinet Ministers have this message for the national athletes competing in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games: do your best and make the country proud.

The ministers who attended an event where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak handed over the Jalur Gemilang to the contingents for the SEA Games and Asean Para Games took the opportunity to convey their personal support to the athletes.

Among them was Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who sent his well wishes to the Malaysian gymnastics team.

Liow hopes that the athletes will give their best to ensure that Malaysia emerge as overall champions at the Games.

“I want them to pour their hearts out for their country. Go for the best. Bring out your full potential.

“I think the morale among our athletes is good and the team spirit is high. It is also a good thing that we are the hosts, so we have an advantage. The whole nation will be behind the team and cheering them all the way,” he said.

He also urged Malaysians to come out and watch the Games to give the home contingent the “full support that they deserve”.

Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong was optimistic that the national athletes would be able to deliver a lot of medals for Malaysia.

“I’m excited for the Games to begin and I hope to catch as many events as possible, if not at the venues at least on television.

“To our team, we know that you will do your utmost best for the country. I wish you all the best,” he said.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof was happy to see the excitement and enthusiasm among the athletes.

“It’s good to see them in high spirits and they can be assured that the crowd watching them compete in the coming days will have the kind of fervour that matches theirs. There is no doubt that they can count on their fellow Malaysians for support,” he said.
