DAP’s penchant for finding fault is destructive, says Wee

KULAI: MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has labelled DAP as a “destructive action-less party” for always harping on issues and finding fault in whatever the Government does.

Yet, he said, the party did not do much in its own constituencies.

He said DAP’s Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching had repeatedly complained about the lack of Chinese schools in Serdang when she was the MP then.

“She even sang about it on stage during an event but what good would that do? If you keep complaining and harping about it, will you get a new school the next day?

“Back then, I was still the Deputy Education Minister and we managed to get a Chinese school approved but she is no longer the MP for Serdang,” said Dr Wee during the state Wanita MCA annual general meeting here yesterday.

“For the past few decades, DAP has been scolding MCA for not fighting for the Chinese community but did its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng walk the talk as Penang Chief Minister?” he said.

Earlier, he described the Opposition’s confidence of clinching several seats in Johor, such as Tanjung Piai and Ayer Hitam, in the next general election as mere “daydreaming”.

Referring to Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong’s statement that there would be a “Malay tsunami”, Dr Wee said he had meant to say that there would be a split in votes among the Malays, leaving the Chinese to become the kingmaker.

“I already know how the story goes. Liew is just saying that to “syok sendiri” (full of oneself ),” he said after launching the state MCA Youth annual general meeting.

However, Dr Wee, who is also Johor MCA liaison committee chairman, reminded party members not to underestimate the Opposition as they are “pros” in “twisting” and “turning” statements, especially via social media which has a wider reach among young voters.

“Their messages have given the party and the Government a negative perception in the minds of the youths, especially with claims that the polls were unfair,” he said, referring to the previous elections.

MCA Youth, he said, has the responsibility to correct the people’s perception of the party and the Government.

“We have the job of uncovering the Opposition’s inconsistency and refuting those claims to restore the people’s confidence in the Government,” he said.

A way to do this, he said, was to refresh the people’s memory of what the Opposition had promised or said in the build-up towards the last elections and compare these with what they were saying now.

“An example is how the Opposition used to blast Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his ‘I am Malay first and Malaysian second’ statement. Has his position changed now that he is in (Parti) Pribumi (Bersatu Malaysia)?”
