KUALA LUMPUR: Baby Lim Zi Qi is possibly the youngest Malaysians so far to leave her palm print on the Patriotic Palm Print Mural, along Jalan Genting Klang.

The six-month-old left her tiny mark alongside the palm prints of her elder sister Lim Zi Xuan, six, mother Swa Lee Lee, 37, and grandmother Liew Kiau, 70.

Swa said participating in the palm print mural allowed Malaysians of all ages to reflect and understand what being an independent nation meant.

“I hope we will continue to live together peacefully and harmoniously,” she said.

The Patriotic Palm Print Mural, launched by Federal Territories MCA chairman Datuk Yew Teong Look last month, aims to collect 60,000 prints by Sept 16 – Malaysia Day.

Yew said public support for the event was good and estimated there were already 3,000 palm prints on the mural.

“I believe we will be able to get more than 60,000 palm prints by Malaysia Day,” he said.

He added that the mural would be submit- ted to the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s longest wall art piece.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon also left his palm print on the wall yesterday after flagging off the TARCian Run 2017 organised by the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) and its alumni association, TARCian Alumni Association.

Nearly 10,000 people took part and this wyear’s run is the first to include TARUC students from all six campuses nationwide.

The 11km category of the run was flagged off by Chong, while TARUC president Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok flagged off the 8km category.

Chong, who is also MCA Youth chief, said the “healthy” event was part of a series of programmes organised in conjunction with Merdeka month, including a patriotic gathering in Petaling Street, patriotic song composing competition and treasure hunt.

“These activities are to encourage more people to show their love for the country,” he said after the flag off here.
