Hotshot Charmaine has no regrets switching to netball

SINGAPORE netball star Charmaine Soh ( pic) chose the wrong sport, but she has no regrets.

The 27-year-old had wanted to play volleyball, but went to the wrong selection trials in the island republic.

“I still remember the incident in 2003.

“Two trials were going on at the same time and I went to the wrong one.

“I wanted volleyball but ended up joining the netball trials,” said Charmaine.

“Friends laughed at me, saying I was so blur.

“But I’m glad I stuck to netball,” added Charmaine, who works as a risk and regulatory consultant back home.

On the netball court, the lanky Charmaine, who has been representing Singapore since 2011, is far from blur. She is the team’s ace goal scorer.

Yesterday, she steered the defending champions to a sensational 62-37 win over Brunei on the opening day of the competition at the Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara.

Singapore edged Malaysia 46-43 in the final at the 2015 Singapore Games.

“I was in the team when we defeated Malaysia in 2015. We won because we committed fewer mistakes,” said Charmaine

She is again expecting Singapore to meet Malaysia in the final.

“Malaysia have improved and they’ll have lots of support here. I’m looking forward to meeting them again.

“It’ll be a good match,” said Charmaine.
