Najib raps Opposition for deriding MRT project

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Opposition has been taken to task for belittling the Government’s efforts in building the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line project.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said it seemed that the Opposition liked to disparage “every single thing implemented by the Government for the people”.

He said the project was introduced with the aim of enabling people living in urban areas to enjoy a more efficient public transportation network and a better standard of living.

But the Opposition was hitting out at the project, “saying that they can build it at a much lower cost,” he said in a blog post at najibrazak.com.

He also criticised the Opposition for undermining the local experts who hadworked hard and succeeded in completing the project ahead of schedule and at a lower cost.

“The funny thing is that there are reports of financial scandals in the Opposition-led states, including the purchase of a bungalow, a Disneyland-like house, as well as (undersea) tunnel, arches and expressways which cost much higher than necessary.

“Where does all the money go? Are they using it to build the MRT at a lower cost?” Najib asked.

“The bottom line is the MRT Line 1 is now in place and the people are beginning to enjoy the facility,” he added.

The MRT SBK Line with its 31 stations was completed at a cost of RM21bil.

The first phase, between Sungai Buloh and Semantan, went into service on Dec 16 last year.

On July 17, the second phase, between the National Museum and Kajang, was opened. — Bernama
