PETALING JAYA: Sarawakians are set to showcase their unique heritage at the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2017 by turning out in their colourful traditional attire.

Proud Iban Andrew Andreas, 36, is determined to recruit at least 50 of his fellow Sarawakians to represent the state at the annual walk on Aug 27.

The Serdang-based human resource executive said the event is a significant exercise to bring together Malaysians of diverse backgrounds to celebrate the spirit of unity.

“It is also an opportunity for Sarawakians to present their aboriginal culture. It is important for Sarawakians because we are ‘anakanak’ Malaysia too,” he added.

Andrew hopes Malaysians of other cultures will take the opportunity to learn more about the different Sarawakian native tribes. “We are excited to share a slice of

our culture with others, especially

the younger generation,” he said.

Andrew, who will be taking part in the walk with his cousins, said he is looking forward to joining the event for the first time.

The inaugural #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk took place last year.

“I am proud to be Sarawakian, and also to be Malaysian. We come from different cultures and beliefs but we can socialise, eat and drink together as one family. That is the beauty of this country,” he said.

#AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2017 will be held at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam on Aug 27.

It is organised by Star Media Group in collaboration with Eco World Development Group Bhd.
