PETALING JAYA: Unity is essential – whether it is in the administration of the country or a company.

For 27-year-old Eco World Development Group Bhd executive director Liew Tian Xiong, the key essence that will determine the success of both company and country is unity.

“When more people learn to collaborate and become more understanding of each other, much more can be done for the betterment of our country,” he said.

“It is not about changing. It is about improving the practice of our values to become more understanding towards our fellow countrymen.”

Liew recalled a recent incident which made him feel Malaysian.

“My friends and I were hiking in Bukit Gasing and a lady on the trail in front of us suddenly fainted.

“Every one of my friends, as well as other hikers, rushed to her aid. No one was looking at race or religion. We just saw a person in need and we wanted to help. That is the spirit we need more of in our country,” he said.

Eco World chief executive officer Datuk Chang Khim Wah, 53, said Malaysia – much like Eco World – was a young country that must continue to stand firm on its principles.

“Eco World is four-and-a-half years old. In this time, we have grown to have a very diverse team of different races, genders and generations working towards a single objective.

“In the same way, I think to become a developed nation, we have to enjoy our diversity and celebrate it.

“We have evolved so much and now, with information and technology growing at a rapid speed, we need to remember that our values must remain intact.

“As much as we try to keep up with our neighbours, our principles cannot change because these will carry us forward,” he said.

Chang, who will be taking part in the #AnakAnakMalaysia walk at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam on Aug 27, is encouraging his colleagues and friends to join him for the 5km event.

“This walk makes everyone come together at the same starting point.

“Although we walk the 5km journey at a different pace from one another, it is a great feeling to know that we are all headed to the same destination,” he said.

Urging people to join the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk, chief operating officer Datuk S. Rajoo said the event celebrated not just unity but diversity in the country.

“If they are serious about unity in the country, they should come for the walk,” he said.

Divisional general manager Datin Natrah Abdullah said the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk was a great example of doing things together.

The effort to bring people together, she said, must not be done by a small group of individuals or organisations.

“I hope many other organisations would do the same, so that it’s a continuous and collective effort to move towards one direction,” said Natrah.

#AnakAnakMalaysia Walk is organised by Star Media Group in collaboration with Eco World Development Group Bhd.

There will be lucky draw prizes, including a Proton Iriz 1.6L Premium CVT, a Gintell (M) Sdn Bhd De’Vano S Funtastic Sofa, Goodnite Exec Series 6” Achievement Mattress, Panasonic Merchandise, PNB Perdana Hotel and Suites on the Park stays, Spin Pro B1.3 Exercise Bike from Healthy World Lifestyle, OTO e-Physio Plus EY-900P, Soleus GPS Sole running watch and Kay Kay All Plant Sports Protein Powder by Inno Asia Distribution Sdn Bhd.

Sponsors include CIMB Foundation (Gold Sponsor), Panasonic (Silver Sponsor) and Proton (Car Sponsor).
