Good Samaritans catch snatch thieves in two cases

PETALING JAYA: Quick action by bystanders led to the arrest of two snatch thieves in two separate cases.

Around 10am on Saturday, a 22-year-old man tried to snatch the handbag of a woman in Pandan Indah, Ampang.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Hamzah Alias said the suspect came behind the 29-year-old promoter on his motorcycle and grabbed her handbag.

ACP Hamzah said there was a scuffle between the two, causing the victim to fall down before she was dragged on the road.

The victim, who injured her right hand and leg, was aided by a man who managed to cause the suspect to fall from the motorcycle.

ACP Hamzah said that the suspect tried to flee but was apprehende­d by onlookers before he was handed over to police.

He said that checks showed the suspect had two criminal records and the motorcycle he used was reported lost in the Gombak area.

ACP Hamzah added that the suspect suffered injuries on his face, hands, several areas on his torso and his legs.

He added that he has been remanded until Wednesday.

The second case occurred in Puchong. According to Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohamad Aminudin Megat Alias, a male suspect grabbed the purse of a 40-year-old woman around 2.15pm on Saturday in Jalan Puteri, Puchong.

Onlookers managed to apprehend the 19-year-old after he fell off his motorcycle.

They also managed to recover the victim’s purse.

ACP Megat Mohamad Aminudin said that the woman suffered minor injuries on her calf when she fell as her purse was snatched.

He said the suspect, who had a previous criminal record, was remanded yesterday.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempt to commit robbery.
