Sept 20 hearing for ex-JPJ deputy D-G

-

PUTRAJAYA: The case involving former Road Transport Department deputy director-general Datuk Yusoff Ayob, who allegedly drove on the emergency lane, will go to trial on Sept 20.

Magistrate Syahrul Sazly Md Sain set the date after deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Izzat Fauzan said they had yet to obtain a reply from the Attorney-General’s Chambers on the letter of representation submitted by Yusoff.

DPP Muhammad Izzat also told the court that they would call two witnesses to testify.

Yusoff, 58, was charged with driving a vehicle on the emergency lane in Lingkaran Putrajaya here at 6.27pm on Oct 7 last year.

He was accused under Rule 53(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, punishable with a fine of not more than RM2,000 or up to six months’ jail upon conviction.

On July 18, Yusoff sent his special officer to plead guilty on his behalf.

But on July 21, Kuala Lumpur High Court Judicial Commissioner Ab Karim Ab Rahman exercised his revisionary power to review the case.

Yusoff’s guilty plea and fine meted out against him were set aside.

The case was ordered to be sent back for the accused to be recharged and to enter his plea personally before a new magistrate.

Yusoff claimed trial on July 25.
