Selangor PAS to contest 42 state seats in GE14
SHAH ALAM: Selangor PAS plans to contest 42 state seats in the next general election, says its state commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi.
These include the Kajang and Bukit Antarabangsa seats, currently held by PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Sallehen said PAS was even prepared to face three-cornered fights for the seats.
He said PAS was also considering fielding a candidate in the Gombak parliamentary seat, which is currently held by Azmin.
“The final decision will be made by the party leadership, but at the moment we are considering contesting that seat as well,” Sallehen said, adding that the seat was contested by former PAS member Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli in 1999 and 2004. Azmin contested the Gombak seat and won it in the 2008 and 2013 general election.
Asked if Azmin had initiated talks with the state PAS regarding the matter, Sallehen said he had yet to hear from the mentri besar.
PKR’s political bureau gave Azmin, who is party deputy president, the green light last week to discuss seat distribution with PAS for the next general election.
There are 56 state seats in Selangor.
Sallehen later said PAS was not keen to contest in three-cornered fights against Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan, but was forced by circumstances to do so.
“Actually we don’t like three-cornered fights but we decided to do so after DAP chairman Tony Pua and Selangor Parti Amanah Negara chairman Izham Hashim said they would field candidates in all seats currently held by us,” he added.
