Pupils mark N-Day at special assembly
SJKC Sam Tet boys proud of their flags
IPOH: SJKC Sam Tet pupils held a special assembly to celebrate National Day and show off all the mini Jalur Gemilang they assembled from Star Media Group’s Raise the Flag campaign.
Senior assistant (co-curricular) Yip Ei Ching said the students were excited when they received their copies of The Star on Aug 18, which carried the mini-flags, and quickly got to work putting the Jalur Gemilang together.
“Some of them also worked on the T-shirt template to make it as colourful and outstanding as possible,” she added.
SJKC Sam Tet ordered 260 copies of the newspaper’s Raise the Flag issue.
Yip said eight classes were selected to take part in the initiative and more than half had already assembled the flags and decorated the T-shirt templates by Tuesday.
The special assembly was held yesterday. Under the campaign, which runs until Malaysia Day on Sept 16 and is meant to strengthen national pride, special four-page spreads wrapping around the newspaper will enable readers to cut out and assemble their own mini-flags.
There will also be a T-shirt template included in the newspaper’s centrespread to be decorated with a Malaysian motif and for contestants to be photographed “wearing” it while holding the flag.
The photograph should then be hashtagged #RaiseTheFlagMY on social media, together with a short love note to Malaysia.
Participants can also share it on Facebook as: raisetheflagmy.
Submissions with at least 15 persons “wearing” the T-shirts and waving the flags stand to win a RM4,000 buffet for 100 pax at their school, office or home from Original Kayu Nasi Kandar.
Aset Kayamas is the main sponsor while Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd is the co-sponsor.
