Sailors calm the waters by meeting two-gold target

THE national sailing team have met their target of two golds by winning the men’s Internatio­nal

420 and Internatio­nal 470 at the National Sailing Complex in Langkawi.

Muhammad Uzair Amin Mohd Yusof-Naquib Eiman Shahrin obtained 13 penalty points to clinch the Internatio­nal 420 gold while Thailand took the silver and bronze.

In the Internatio­nal 470, Mohammad Faizal Norizan-Ahmad Syukri Abdul Aziz collected 17 penalty points for the gold.

Navee Thamsoonto­rm-Nut Burmarasri of Thailand picked up the silver with 28 penalty points and the bronze went to Emerson Villenia-Lester Troy Tayong of the Philippine­s with 41 penalty points.

Malaysia, however, failed to retain the gold in the women’s Internatio­nal 470.

Nuraisyah Jamil- Norashikin Mohd Sayed picked up the silver when they were beaten by just one penalty point. Singaporea­ns Elisa Yukie Yokoyama- Teo Cheryl claimed the gold.

In the women’s Internatio­nal 420, Malaysia could only manage a bronze through Nur Aishah Kovo Mohd Yusri-Nurul Izzryn Shamsul Ariffin.

Thailand emerged champions followed by Singapore.

To date, Malaysia have bagged three golds, two silvers and one bronze.

Another seven golds – men and women’s Optimist, Laser Standard, men and women’s Laser Radial, men and women’s Windsurfin­g RS ONE – are up for grabs. — Bernama
