PKR division heads want EGM to decide ties with PAS

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of PKR division leaders wants an extraordinary general meeting to be held within a month so that grassroots members can decide if the party should work with PAS in the next general election.

Headed by Pakatan Harapan Taskforce president Yusuf Tapa, who is also Rembau PKR chief, the group managed to get the support of 56 out of the minimum 73 divisions required to hold an EGM.

Speaking at a press conference here, Yusuf said the move was nei- ther aimed at disrupting party unity nor targeted at toppling any PKR leader.

He said the group felt that the decision whether or not to work with PAS should be made by party members and not just leaders in the central executive committee.

Accompanying Yusuf at the conference were Titiwangsa division chief Che Zam Hamzah and Setiawangsa division deputy chief Mustafa Ghazanfar.

They also expressed unhappiness over the central leadership’s failure to arrive at a firm decision on the party’s relationship with PAS.

He said vague instructions from the central leadership had also strained relationships among the party’s divisions.

“Worse, voters are becoming frustrated and are blaming PKR for not having the same stance as other Pakatan Harapan allies regarding PAS,” he said.

PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali recently said the party was open to discussions with Selangor PAS following the Islamist party’s announcement that it would contest 42 state seats in the state at GE14.

In Kota Baru, the party appointed Mohd Khairul Amin Abdul Rahman as the new Kelantan youth chief, replacing Dr Mohd Hafidz Rizal Amran.

PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad sent the letter of appointment to Mohd Khairul yesterday, the same day that he issued a letter of termination to Mohd Hafidz.

Mohd Khairul was Hafidz’s deputy.
