Smuggled cows pose disease risk in the country

Animals could affect local livestock and spread sickness to humans

-

SOME 15,000 to 20,000 cows and buffaloes have been smuggled into the country from Thailand since early this year, Berita Harian

reported.

The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department believed that the livestock was brought in before the authorities tightened border controls along Sungai Golok and closed 129 illegal outposts in July.

Assistant enforcement officer Mohd Junaidi Noh said the smuggled animals could affect local livestock by transmitting diseases, thereby jeopardising the health of consumers.

“This sickness does not only infect the animals but can spread to humans as well.

“People who consume the meat of sick animals could become infertile. Pregnancies could also be endangered,” he said.

The authorities would only give health certificates and slaughter permits to legal livestock suppliers, he added.

> Singer Stacy did not waste time regaining her figure after giving birth so that she could get back to work, Harian Metro reported.

After delivering her baby on Feb 17, she achieved her ideal weight of 52kg within four months by working out and eating healthy.

Her newly released single Cakap Ke Tangan

is the first release by the Akademi Fantasia

Season Six winner after a six-month hiatus.

“Dancing has helped me lose weight. If I’m not practising with other dancers, I will dance on my own at home.

“Reaching my ideal weight was not easy. I needed determination to do that and prove to everyone that I can still sing and dance after giving birth,” said Stacy, whose real name is Ummu Shaikhah Stacy Anam.

> Actress and singer Farahdhiya is back on the stage in Emas Bahara after a six-year absence from theatre, owing to fears of not being paid, the same daily reported.

Farahdhiya claimed she developed the phobia after she was not paid for a play in 2011.

The strong character of Tun Fatimah in Emas Bahara is the reason Farahdhiya put aside her fears and accepted the offer from CTRA Production.

“I was attracted to the role and the message it aims to convey to the public,” she said.

Farahdhiya added that the production house has a good reputation and this eased her concerns.

Reaching my ideal weight was not easy.y I needed determin nation to do that anda prove to everyo one that I can stilll sing and danc ce after giving birth.
