PETALING JAYA: All Malaysians should take pride in the country’s many successes because each achievement is the result of the collective effort by every citizen, said the Prime Minister.

Paying tribute to Malaysians ahead of the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak called on everyone to unite and continue Malaysia’s success.

“We can do it if we are of one heart. Let us continue our journey with one aim in order to achieve success together.

“Happy National Day and Happy Malaysia Day,” Najib said in a video message in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of our independence tomorrow and the 54th anniversary of Malaysia’s formation on Sept 16.

The one- minute clip was uploaded on Najib’s Twitter feed (@NajibRazak) yesterday.

Najib said Malaysia is a modern and successful nation that is the envy of many other countries.

He said the country’s achievements did not occur in the “blink of an eye”.

“Our achievements all this while have been the result of our collective effort, and we will not stop here.

“We will continue to forge ahead, carrying out our responsibilities for our country,” he said.

The clip featured Najib making his remarks while walking along the iconic Rukunegara wall at the Merdeka MRT station in Kuala Lumpur.

The wall is inscribed with the five principles of the Rukunegara.

The clip also features cutaway shots of the MRT service and National Monument.

Also depicted are Malaysians cheering on the country’s SEA Games athletes.

Meanwhile in Putrajaya, retiring Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar paid a courtesy call on Najib at his office.

Khalid, who is due to retire on Sept 5 after 40 years of service with the Royal Malaysia Police, had said earlier that he would not extend his service on contract.

He began his career with the Royal Malaysia Police in 1976 and had served in various capacities, including as chief police officer of Negri Sembilan and Selangor and as the deputy director of the CID at Bukit Aman.

He was made director of Internal Security and Public Order at Bukit Aman in 2010 and deputy IGP in April 2011.

Khalid, who hails from Seremban, was appointed IGP on May 17, 2013, succeeding Tan Sri Ismail Omar.
