Shoppers take advantage of long weekend and Merdeka sale

KULAI: Shoppers took full advantage of the long weekend and Merdeka sale at the Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) here.

The shopping centre attracted scores of people, both locals and foreigners, to its Merdeka sale which offered discounts up to 90% since Aug 30.

Even parents with young children were not deterred by the crowd as they pushed baby strollers and hopped from one outlet to another.

Among the crowd was Rachel Tang, 34, from Perak who was there with her husband and two children to enjoy the weekend in Johor.

“We came here for a three-day trip to visit Legoland Malaysia and decided to get some early Christmas shopping done when we heard about the Merdeka sale!

“I got good bargains on some branded handbags, shoes and gifts for family members,” she told The Star when met here yesterday.

Businesswoman Nooriah Zaimi, 54, who is from Kuala Lumpur to visit relatives in Johor for Hari Raya Haji, said she decided to stop at JPO for a shopping session.

“My niece and I decided to drive here before heading to visit another relative who lives in Skudai.

“We don’t want to miss out on the sale, especially when it comes to branded goods,” she added.

Engineer L. Vishwa, 32, who was shopping with his parents and wife, said that the sale was timely as Deepavali is not too far away.

“After this we plan to check out the deals at the Indian Fair at Danga City Expo in Johor Baru,” he added.

Store assistant Stephanie Lee, who works at one of the outlets here, said the crowd surged into the building as soon as the doors were opened.

“Our shop has been flooded with shoppers for days and our stock is clearing fast. Our customers are a good blend of locals and foreigners,” she said.
