KUALA LUMPUR: It’s hard to miss the husband- wife team of Kamarudin Mohamed Nordin, 64, and Rosnah Abu, 56, whenever there is a tournament at the National Lawn Bowls Centre in Bukit Kiara.

The couple, from Johor, have been involved in lawn bowls for more than 20 years and are still as passionate about the game as the first day they played it.

They have represented the state and country and are now qualified coaches. Thus, it was not surprising to find them at the National Lawns Bowls Centre – as technical officials for the event in the recent SEA Games.

Kamarudin, a former policeman, said he started playing the game in 1996 before his wife got hooked on it two years later.

“She followed me every time I went out to play and she just picked up the game like that.

“When I saw that she had potential, I began to train her and she went on to become a national player,” said Kamarudin.

Rosnah, a housewife, did not let her husband down and she went on to win the gold medal at the 2001 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in the women’s fours event.

“It was 16 years ago when I won the gold at this very same venue. It sure brings back fond memories.

“The thing is ... once you are involved in lawn bowls, you won’t want to stop being associated with it.

“We have not lost touch with the game and still play in veterans competitions,” said Rosnah.

Rosnah and her husband last became champions at the 2014 Mutiara Cup in Penang.

“We competed in the Open triples event (with another friend) and we won.

“So there is no end in lawn bowls. We have the Hang Tuah Cup coming up next in Melaka this October.

“Where there is a lawn bowls competition, there we will be able to meet up with the veterans again.

“It is fun. We are together and it keeps us healthy,”said Rosnah.
